Safety of SMRs, advanced and innovative nuclear reactors and fuels

This grant supports research, design, and demonstration projects focused on the safety of small modular reactors (SMRs), advanced modular reactors (AMRs), and innovative nuclear fuels. It aims to improve the safety of both light water SMRs and advanced reactors, facilitate efficient integration within low-carbon and smart energy systems, develop a shared safety approach among EU regulators, and establish operating rules incorporating new digital technologies. Grant application conditions

Admissibility Conditions	Full proposals must follow the layout in Part B of the Application Form and must not exceed 45 pages for RIA & IA lump sum applications. Detailed budget table is required for lump sum grant proposals.
Eligible Countries	Applicants must be from countries listed in the Horizon Europe/Euratom Participating Countries list, including Member States and Associated Countries.
Consortium Requirement	The Joint Research Centre (JRC) may participate as a member of the consortium. Other eligible conditions as described in the Euratom Work Programme General Annexes.
Financial and Operational Capacity	Applicants must show sufficient financial and operational capacity, as described in the Euratom Work Programme 2026-2027, General Conditions.
Maximum Funding for Third Parties	Beneficiaries may provide financial support to third parties only in the form of grants; the maximum amount to each third party is €60,000.
Eligible Actions	Projects must support research, design, or demonstration of SMRs, AMRs, advanced fuel cycles, or efficient integration with energy systems. Projects must support a coordinated approach among EU regulators and relevant research organisations.
General Legal and Financial Set-up	Legal and financial set-up of grants must comply with Horizon Europe and Euratom Model Grant Agreements.
