European Partnership for research in radiation protection and detection of ionising radiation

This partnership continues the co-funded European partnership for research into radiation protection and detection of ionising radiation (PIANOFORTE) as the EU’s contribution for 2026-2027. It aims to support improved risk estimates, state-of-the-art understanding of radiation effects, development of analytic tools and recommendations, and scientific basis for radiation protection for the public, patients, workers, and the environment. The partnership will also reinforce training, facilitate access to research infrastructures, enhance public engagement, support open and participatory approaches to research, and foster collaborations with industry and other international initiatives. Multidisciplinary cooperation and alignment with relevant European research agendas and directives are central to its scope.

Grant application conditions

Eligible Countries	Applicants from countries listed in the up-to-date List of Participating Countries in Horizon Europe (including Associated Countries).
Specific Eligibility	The proposal must be submitted by the coordinator of the consortium funded under HORIZON-EURATOM-2021-NRT-01-09. Additional partners may be included. The Joint Research Centre (JRC) may participate as a member of the consortium.
Financial/Operational Capacity	Conditions as per General Annexes, Section C—Financial and operational capacity and exclusion.
Legal and financial set-up	Action implemented as amendment to the grant under HORIZON-EURATOM-2021-NRT-01-09. Financial support to third parties allowed, only as grants (max EUR 500,000 for PhD/postdoc, EUR 100,000 for others). Beneficiaries must avoid conflicts of interest and guarantee fair procedures. General legal and financial setup per General Annexes, Section G.
